Observations
DFL-200 Summary of changes: ¤ Fixed minor issues with PPTP/L2TP ¤ Can now specify MAC for WAN interface DFL-200 Firmware Release Note
Firmware: 1.34.00
Enhancement
- Implementing H.323 ALG in DFL-700 and DFL-1100.
- Now possible to set the MAC address of the WAN interface manually. It should only be used if it is required by the ISP.
Bug fixes
- It was not possible to connect to the WebUI through a PPTP/L2TP tunnel
- The web browser could stall on some pages when using HTTP ALG
- HTTP ALG now allows compressed data. The HTTP ALG always asked the Web server not to send compressed data as this does not work with content stripping. The HTTP ALG will now allow the server to send compressed data as long as the HTTP ALG isn't configured to do content stripping.
- IDS triggered on packets that it shouldn't while using IXP hardware Affects DFL-200
- IKE vulnerability: The IKE library was not performing sufficiently rigorous checks on the validity of IKEv1 packets received from the network.
- Telstra BigPond clients did not use the correct authentication server
- Make UTF-8 checks optional in the HTTP ALG
- The configuration file was not correctly parsed when configuring IDlist, ID type=IP
- Not possible to configure ID list, ID type=DNS
- Descriptions for factory reset updated
- Added a delay after downloading the new IDS signature database. Earlier the firewall reconfigured immediately after a successful download.

Overview
In this document, the notation Objects->Address book means that in the tree on the left
side of the screen Objects first should be clicked (expanded) and then Address Book.
Most of the examples in this document are adapted for the DFL-800. The same settings can
easily be used for all other models in the series. The only difference is the names of the
interfaces. Since the DFL-1600 and DFL-2500 has more than one lan interface, the lan
interfaces are named lan1, lan2 and lan3 not just lan.
The screenshots in this document is from firmware version 2.04.00. If you are using a later
version of the firmware, the screenshots may not be identical to what you see on your
browser.
To prevent existing settings to interfere with the settings in these guides, reset the
firewall to factory defaults before starting.

VPN Firewall for SOHO
With DMZ Port & 4-Port Switch
The DFL-200 VPN Firewall delivers complete network protection and Virtual Private Network (VPN) services for the small
office environment. This device provides an economic yet dependable solution for protection against content-based threats,
along with content filtering, firewall, VPN and intrusion detection. This allows you to effectively detect and defeat Internet
attacks, prevent misuse, and improve the quality of key network applications, without degrading the performance of your
network.
Designed for SOHO
Firewall
Your office is connected to the outside world Internet or
linked to the corporate network and trusted suppliers through
the Intranet, and is vulnerable to attacks. The DFL-200 is a
compact and easy-to-install unit that can address the needs of
a SOHO network. With the functionality typically found in
the more expensive devices, this device combines extensive
firewall protection with Internet gateway functions,
eliminating for you the need to install a separate firewall
behind a remote router.
A DMZ port is provided to allow your web, mail and FTP
servers to be directly accessed from the Internet. This
alleviates congested server traffic from entering the your
internal network, while providing your office LAN with the
firewall protection. A built-in 4-port switch allows your
workstations to directly connect to the firewall/router, saving
you the cost and trouble of installation a separate Fast
Ethernet switch.
The DFL-200 provides Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and
inbound/outbound filters for your network. Virtual IP
mapping maps public IP addresses to servers on the internal
and DMZ networks for secure public access. The DFL-200
detects DoS (Denial of Service) attacks against your network
operating systems and applications and alerts you of these
attacks by e-mail.
IPSec VPN
Logging
Setup and Management
Industry-standard IPSec, PPTP and L2TP VPN* provide
secure communication between networks and clients. The
DFL-200 provides Auto-Key Internet Key Exchange (IKE),
and hardware accelerated DES and 3DES encryption. Client
pass-through support is provided for IPSec, PPTP and L2TP.
Logging allows you to monitor your network. The DFL-200
provides extensive logging for filtering activities, session
tracking activities, intrusion detection activities and user
authentication activities. Logs can be easily searched by
keywords, source, destination, time and date.
Web-based configuration provides easy system setup and
administration. Industry-standard MIBs are built into the
device for platform-independent SNMP-based management
and monitoring. A Command Line Interface is provided for
you to set up and configure the device from a console, using
the built-in RS-232 port.

How to Configure ZoneDefense for D-Link switch model DES-3226S
This example will show how to configure the firewall to use ZoneDefense.
Details:
The local network contains a D-Link DES-3226S switch. This example shows how to define a Microsoft-DS Threshold (TCP port 445) of 10 connections/second (eg, the work SASSER.A will send out a large amount of TCP SYN on port 445). If the number of connections exceeds this limitation, the firewall will block the specific hosts port on the switch (host 192.168.2.10 in this scenario). The switch port connected to the firewall should be configured to use 192.168.1.250 and the community string MyCompany.

Connecting The DFL-200 Network
Security Firewall To Your Network
A. First, connect the power adapter to the receptor at the back panel of the DFL-
200 and then plug the other end of the power adapter to a wall outlet or power
strip. The Power LED will turn ON to indicate proper operation.
B. 1. Power off your Cable or DSL modem; some devices may not have a on/off
switch and will require you to unplug the power adapter. Now, the DFL-200
should be powered on and the Cable / DSL modem should be turned off.
2. Cable / DSL modem (Power Off) – DFL-200 (Power On)
Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack located on the Cable / DSL
modem. After the Ethernet cable is securely connected, power on the Cable /
DSL modem by turning on the unit or plugging in the power adapter.
3. Cable / DSL modem (Power On) – DFL-200 (Power On)
Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the back
panel of the DFL-200. The WAN LED light will illuminate to indicate proper
connection. If the WAN LED is not illuminated, please go back to step B and
repeat its instructions.
C. Insert an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports on the back panel of the
DFL-200 and connect it to your internal network host. The LED light for the
LAN port on the DFL-200 will illuminate to indicate proper connection
D. Connect the computer that you will use to confi gure the DFL-200 to the
network hub or switch.

DFL-200/700/1100/800/1600/2500 IDS Pattern Release Note
IDS pattern: 2005_06_03
Pattern number : 660
Date: June 3, 2005
Description :
*Signatures that would always give false-positives have been removed.
Also some really old signatures (from like 1988) for programs that nobody
uses any more where removed. The removal of these old signatures will
increase the performance of the IDS/IDP engine.
* More descriptive log messages have been added to each signature.
The log message will now for example state the probable impact the
attack had.
* Some signatures where modified to cover a large attack surface. This will
result in higher performance of the IDS/IDP engine and the possibility that
signatures will catch new and undiscovered attacks.
* New and more updated attack signatures where added.
