Setting up Windows 95 TCP/IP Printing
The D-Link network print server can provide print services to TCP/IP
networks using the lpr/lpd network printing protocol. Most UNIX
systems are capable of supporting lpd, as is Windows NT.
D-Link’s LPR for TCP/IP Printing client gives Windows 95
workstations the ability to print using the lpr/lpd printing protocol.
Though it is possible to print to D-Link network print servers from
Windows 95, this capability is useful if primarily administer your
network from UNIX systems, or if you want to print from workstations
that are only accessible through IP routing.
Installing the LPR for TCP/IP Printing Client
Before your Windows 95 workstation can print using the lpr protocol,
you will need to install the D-Link client program, as follows:
1. Make sure that you have installed the TCP/IP protocol, and have
properly configured the Windows 95 TCP/IP settings. You can
install the protocol from the Network control panel if necessary.
2. From the Start menu, choose the Settings submenu, then the
Control Panel item within it. Windows will display the Control
Panel folder.
3. Double-click on the Network icon in the Control Panel folder.
4. Click on the Add... button on the Configuration tab.
5. Windows will ask for the type of component to add. Select
Client and click Add... to continue.
6. When Windows asks you to select a network client, click the
Have Disk... button.
7. Insert the LPR client diskette in your computer’s floppy drive (A:
or B:), enter the proper pathname, and click OK.
8. Select the LPR for TCP/IP Printing client and click OK.
9. Windows will copy the necessary files, and return to the
Network dialog. Click OK to let Windows restart.
Adding LPR Printer Ports
Once you have installed the client, and have enabled TCP/IP printing
for the D-Link network print servers, then you need to add a printer
port for each printer you will be printing to using the lpr/lpd
protocol. To add a printer port,
1. From the Start menu, choose the Settings submenu, then the
Control Panel item within it. Windows will display the Control
Panel folder.
2. Double-click on the Network icon in the Control Panel folder.
3. Choose the LPR for TCP/IP Printing client and click the
Properties button.

Faxes. Click on Add a printer.
2. The ‘Add printer wizard’ should then come up. Click Next.

4. The wizard will then ask you to Select a Printer Port. Select ‘Create a new port’. Select
Standard TCP/IP Port. Click Next.
5. The ‘Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard’ should then come up. Click Next.
6. Specify the IP address of the print server. An arbitrary ‘Port name’ will be generated by
default and this is based on the IP address specified. Please use different names if you
are installing multiple ports for the print server like the DP-100/300. This is because
Windows XP will only allow a unique ‘Port Name’. You can use something like i.e.
192.168.0.10_P1, 192.168.0.10_P2, etc. Click Next.
7. The wizard will then ask for Additional Port Information. Select Custom and then click on
Settings.
8. The ‘Configure Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor’ will then come up. Under protocol, select
LPR. In the ‘LPR Settings’ section, set the ‘Queue Name’ to the name of the port
registered on the print server. The name shown in the example below is using the
default format for port 1 (i.e. PS-616E64-P1). Click OK.
9. The wizard will then confirm the details of the new TCP/IP Printer Port. Click on Finish to
complete the wizard.
10. The ‘Add printer Wizard’ will then start the installation of the Printer drivers. Please
follow this wizard through and install the drivers for your printer accordingly.
11. The wizard will then ask for the name of your printer. Enter the appropriate name for
your printer.
12. Choose whether you wish to share the printer with other network users and enter an
appropriate name.

13. The wizard will then ask for the ‘Location and Comment’ for the printer. Put in the
appropriate details for the printer.
14. The wizard will then ask if you would like to print a test page. Select ‘Yes’ to confirm it
is printing correctly. Once done, click Next.
15. The wizard will confirm that you have successfully installed the printer. Click Finish to
complete the installation.

3-Port Print Server
Print Server
The DP-300U multi-port print server is designed to share a cluster of printers located at a central site such as a data center or
a computer room. It is equipped with 2 parallel printer ports and 1 USB port, allowing 2 parallel printers and 1 USB printer to
be shared over the network. Supporting multiple network operating systems, this device brings a high level of flexibility and
performance to your office printing needs.
Multiple Ports Save Cost
Simultaneous Printing on All Printers
With 3 printer ports available from a single device, you don't
need to purchase and install a separate print server for each
printer. This multi-port print server is only slightly more
expensive than a single-port print server. Where your printers
are closely placed together, it makes sense to buy a single
print server instead of three. Each of your printers is
connected to a printer port on the server through a printer
cable.
Equipped with a powerful CPU, large memory and highspeed
printer ports, this print server makes printing of your
network files fast. All printers attached to this device can
print their print jobs at the same time, giving your multi-port
print server a similar performance as that of 3 separate
single-port print servers.
Multiple Network OS Support
Bi-directional Printer Communication
The DP-300U supports as many network OS as these:
Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, XP, Apple MacOS with
AppleTalk, Linux, Solaris, SCO Unix, IBM AIX and
NetWare 5.x native NDS. Better yet, you can configure
different OS on different printers and have them print at the
same time. This gives you all the flexibility
when you select the DP-300U.
HP PJL protocol is supported for bi-directional network
printer communication, providing you with critical
information about the network printer.

Connecting The DP-300U To Your Network
First, insert one end of a straight-through CAT5 Ethernet RJ-45 cable
into the “Network Port” (shown below.) Connect the other end of the
cable to the LAN port of the gateway or switch. Note: Do not connect
the power cord to the DP-300U until you are advised to do so
Next, make sure that the Printer is turned OFF.
Using the USB cable or printer cable, connect one end of the cable to
the USB or parallel port of the DP-300U (shown below) and the other
end to the USB or parallel port of the printer.
Turn ON the printer.
Then, plug one end of the power adapter into the DP-300U and the
other end into your electric outlet.
The DP-300U will turn on and begin a self-test.
Setting up your DP-300U for network
printing in Windows XP
For additional Windows operating system setup or information
on the web-management interface, refer to the manual located
on the CD-ROM.
The factory default IP address of the DP-300U is 192.168.0.10. In order to
print to the printer(s) through the DP-300U, the DP-300U must have the
same IP network settings as your network. IP address can be assigned
manually or automatically by DHCP, BOOTP or RARP. To access the
print server’s web configuration, manually assign an IP address on one of
the PC’s on your network to the same subnet as the print server.
Go to Start > right click on
My Network Places >
select Properties > Double-click on
the Network Connection associated
with your Network Adapter.
