Setting up Windows 95 TCP/IP Printing
The D-Link network print server can provide print services to TCP/IP
networks using the lpr/lpd network printing protocol. Most UNIX
systems are capable of supporting lpd, as is Windows NT.
D-Link’s LPR for TCP/IP Printing client gives Windows 95
workstations the ability to print using the lpr/lpd printing protocol.
Though it is possible to print to D-Link network print servers from
Windows 95, this capability is useful if primarily administer your
network from UNIX systems, or if you want to print from workstations
that are only accessible through IP routing.
Installing the LPR for TCP/IP Printing Client
Before your Windows 95 workstation can print using the lpr protocol,
you will need to install the D-Link client program, as follows:
1. Make sure that you have installed the TCP/IP protocol, and have
properly configured the Windows 95 TCP/IP settings. You can
install the protocol from the Network control panel if necessary.
2. From the Start menu, choose the Settings submenu, then the
Control Panel item within it. Windows will display the Control
Panel folder.
3. Double-click on the Network icon in the Control Panel folder.
4. Click on the Add... button on the Configuration tab.
5. Windows will ask for the type of component to add. Select
Client and click Add... to continue.
6. When Windows asks you to select a network client, click the
Have Disk... button.
7. Insert the LPR client diskette in your computer’s floppy drive (A:
or B:), enter the proper pathname, and click OK.
8. Select the LPR for TCP/IP Printing client and click OK.
9. Windows will copy the necessary files, and return to the
Network dialog. Click OK to let Windows restart.
Adding LPR Printer Ports
Once you have installed the client, and have enabled TCP/IP printing
for the D-Link network print servers, then you need to add a printer
port for each printer you will be printing to using the lpr/lpd
protocol. To add a printer port,
1. From the Start menu, choose the Settings submenu, then the
Control Panel item within it. Windows will display the Control
Panel folder.
2. Double-click on the Network icon in the Control Panel folder.
3. Choose the LPR for TCP/IP Printing client and click the
Properties button.

Rev:
Summary: Macintosh: Using a D-Link Print Server with a Macintosh
Details: D-Link does not currently (11/1/00) produce print server configuration or driver
software for the Macintosh. As such, D-Link’s print servers cannot be configured by
Macintoshes. However, once configured by an IBM-compatible computer, many of D-Link print
servers can be used, as printing devices by Macintoshes and here’s how to do it:
1. Requirements:
A. At least one Windows-based computer (95/98/ME/NT/2000)
(This computer will be used to configure the print server and to run the print server
software).
B. The Print Server’s Driver software (Windows-based)
(Optional - Some D-Link print server devices require them)
C. The PSADMIN Utility (Windows-based)
(D-Link’s print server configuration & management utility)
D. As of present, D-Link’s PSADMIN utility currently (11/1/00) only supports
PostScript printers for use with the Macintosh. No other kinds of printers are
supported.
2. Installing the Print Server
A. Install the print server’s hardware and connect it to the network.
B. Install the print server’s drivers (if necessary)
C. Install PSADMIN
This is the main screen of PSADMIN. Notice the PS-dlink name under Server Name on the
left. This is the default name that PSADMIN assigns to the print server until its been
configured. For now, just disregard it.
To configure the print server, you either need to:
1. Click on the Configuration button at the center of the main screen
or
2. Choose AppleTalk from the Configuration menu.
Note: At this point, PSADMIN will automatically change the print server’s name from PS-dlink
to something like the PS-026017-P1 that you see below. You’ll be able to manually change
the name later on if you so like. Notice the change also under Server Name in the
background.
After you have done that, you’ll get the following screen. If you know what your AppleTalk
Zone is, just type its name in the appropriate text field and then click on the Port Settings
button. If you don’t know what the AppleTalk Zone is, just leave the text field with just the
asterisk in it.
After clicking on the Port Settings button, you’ll get the following screen. This is where you
can also change the print server’s name to anything that you want. Just highlight the current
name that exists under Chooser Name (such as PS-026017) and type over its new name.
As mentioned before, the PSADMIN utility currently (11/1/00) only supports PostScript
printers. You can’t use anything else. If you have a PostScript printer attached to the print
server, choose the only choice: the LaserWriter for the Printer Type: This should work will
almost all PostScript printers as this is a generic choice for such printers.
Next, choose the Postscript Level that the printer uses (Level 1 or 2) and click OK.
Once configured, you can now let the Macintosh to find and use the print server. If you
already haven’t done so, attach the Macintosh to the network and make sure that it has been
configured to already use the network.
Next, use the Chooser to find the new print server (Apple Menu > Chooser). Once in the
Chooser, make sure that the AppleTalk Active button (at the bottom) is checked. Finally,
click on the LaserWriter 8 icon (on the left) and the name of the D-Link print server should
come up on the right. The print server should now come up for every application you want to
use on the Macintosh.

Connecting The DP-G310 To Your Network
First, insert one end of a straight-through CAT5 Ethernet cable into the DPG310’
s Network Port (shown below.) Connect the other end of the cable to the
LAN port of the gateway or switch. Note: Do not connect the power cord to
the DP-G310 until you are advised to do so.
Warning!
Only a USB printer may be connected to the USB port of the DP-G310. Do
not connect any other USB device to the DP-G310’s USB port; doing so
may damage the unit, voiding the warranty for this product.
Next, make sure that your Printer is turned OFF.
Using your USB cable, connect one end of the cable to the USB port of the
DP-G310 and the other end to the USB port of your printer. Turn ON the
printer.
Then, plug one end of the power adapter into the DP-G310 and the other end
into your electric outlet. The DP-G310 will turn on and begin a self-test.
Setting up your DP-G310 for network
printing in Windows XP
For additional Windows operating system setup or information
on the Web-management interface, refer to the manual located
on the CD-ROM.
The factory default IP address of the DP-G310 is 192.168.0.10. In order to network
to the printer through the DP-G310, the DP-G310 must have the same IP network
settings as your network. To access the Print Server’s Web configuration interface,
assign an IP address on one of the wired PCs on your network to the same IP
scheme as the Print Server.
Go to Start > Right-click on
My Network Places >
select Properties > Double-click on
the Network Connection associated
with your Network Adapter.
Input a static IP address in the
same range as the print server.
The IP address of the DP-G310 can
be modified on the Network tab of
the Web configuration menu.
The following instructions use the Print
Server’s default IP address as an
example. Make the appropriate changes
if you have modified the DP-G310’s IP
address.
Click on the Configuration tab
to view the current Wireless
Settings.
What is Infrastructure and Ad-Hoc Mode?
Ad-Hoc: Refers to two or more 802.11 wireless devices that communicate directly with
one another without using an access point or any connection to a wired network.
Infrastructure: Refers to an 802.11 network in which wireless devices communicate
with each other by first going through an access point or wireless router.
What is an SSID?
A workgroup name of your Wireless Network. All wireless devices must all
have the same SSID to communicate on the wireless network. All D-Link
wireless devices have the default SSID of default, all lower case.
How does WEP Work?
64-bit WEP encryption uses a 10 hexidecimal character key. 128-bit WEP
uses a 26 hexidecimal character key. The WEP encryption key must match
the WEP settings on your AP or wireless router to connect properly.
