Connecting the DVC-1000 Videophone
A. First, place the i2eye VideoPhone directly on top of a television. To
obtain the best viewing experience, the i2eye should be approximately 5
to 10 feet away from where you are viewing it.
B. Attach the supplied audio/video cable to the i2eye and to the matching
audio/video jacks on the television or VCR.
C. Attach the supplied Ethernet cable to the i2eye and to the Cable or DSL
modem or Ethernet network device (hub, switch or router).
D. Attaching a telephone is optional, but recommended for optimal sound
quality when videoconferencing. Attach a standard telephone cable to
the telephone and directly to thei2eye. Do NOT attach the telephone
to a wall telephone outlet.
E. Plug the supplied AC power cable into an AC outlet and then into the
i2eye.
F. Attaching an external microphone is optional, but recommended for
optimal sound for a group videoconference.
Sharing a Broadband Connection
With the i2eye DVC-1000
If you are sharing your broadband connection with any other
devices, use additional Ethernet (CAT5 UTP) cables to connect
your broadband equipment to a router or home gateway.
When you have completed the steps in this Quick Installation
Guide, your connected VideoPhone should look similar to this:
Before using your D-Link i2eye VideoPhone, you will want to understand
the network requirements for this device. If you are using a home gateway
or router and sharing the broadband connection with your DVC-1000, please
read Using the DVC-1000 with a Router or Gateway on Page 33 of the
manual included with the DVC-1000.
Using the Remote Control
The i2eye VideoPhone needs to be setup before use. There is an easy to
use Setup Wizard built-into the i2eye to accomplish the setup.
You will use the Setup Wizard along with the remote control included with the
i2eye. The remote control is used to enter numbers, characters and make
selections from a keyboard that is displayed on the TV screen.
Using the On-Screen Keyboard
Whenever you need to enter numbers or letters into a Setup screen, press
ENTER on the remote control and the on-screen keyboard appears:
After entering characters or numbers, and to execute a selection, press
ENTER on the remote. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor on the screen
to the desired character. The cursor can wrap around on the right and left side
of the keyboard to assist you in ?typing? a character quickly.
To remove the keyboard from the screen, highlight the OK key and press
ENTER on the remote. Also, the CANCEL key on the remote removes the
keyboard from the screen, leaving what you typed on the screen.

Setting up the i2eyeTM VideoPhone
Behind a Router or Internet Gateway
The i2eye VideoPhone from D-Link is a standalone videoconferencing
system that takes a technological leap forward by offering powerful
videoconferencing features and performance at a very affordable
price. However, using the Internet for videoconferencing raises issues
of security and access when a router or Internet gateway is used.
Two possible scenarios may occur when attaching a
videoconferencing device on a network:
1 - The main window is black and you cannot complete the call
OR
2 – The unit you are calling does not receive the call.
Typically, 1 or 2 above mean your router is not forwarding the
necessary ports to your i2eye. This document explains how to configure
the i2eye and a router to enable videoconferencing.
Materials Needed:
• 1 DVC-1000 i2eye VideoPhone
• 1 Ethernet Cable
• A wired or wireless router
• Broadband Internet Connection
USING A D-LINK ROUTER WITH THE i2eye
The D-Link DI-614+ and the DI-604 Routers have a firmware upgrade that allows for easy
configuration of the i2eye. With the DI-614+, DI-604 and the firmware upgrade, you will not need
to manually configure the ports. Soon, the entire line of routers from D-Link will have this autoconfiguration
capability. If you have other Routers or you are having difficulty with the i2eye,
please read the information in the next section titled SETTING UP THE i2eye FOR USE BEHIND
A ROUTER OR FIREWALL to learn how to test your i2eye with a router and open ports on
routers. If you have a D-Link router with firmware support for i2eye, then start by entering the IP
address of the router (usually it will be: 192.168.0.1) into your Web browser and perform the
following steps:
SETTING UP THE i2eye FOR USE BEHIND A ROUTER OR FIREWALL
If you have a non-D-Link branded router, this document is designed to walk you through the setup
process for installing your i2eye behind a router and enable videoconferencing over the Internet.
For the basic setup of the DVC-1000, follow the steps outlined in the Quick Installation Guide
that was included with your DVC-1000.
After you have completed the setup of the DVC-1000 outlined in the Quick Installation Guide,
you will have an operating VideoPhone with an assigned IP Address. If the i2eye is in an
environment with DHCP (because you are using a router to share the Internet with one or more
PCs), the router will assign a private (local) IP Address to the i2eye. This will allow using the
i2eye only within your Local Area Network (LAN) until the router is configured to allow
videoconferencing through the router and over the Internet.
Installing an i2eye VideoPhone on your network is an easy 4-step procedure:
?? Obtain the private IP Address of your i2eye VideoPhone
?? Access your router on your Web browser
?? Configure your router to temporarily put the IP Address of the i2eye in a DMZ for testing
?? Open Virtual Server ports for your router
?? Obtain the private IP Address of your i2eye VideoPhone
Turn the i2eye VideoPhone on. From the Main Screen, use the down arrow on the remote
control to highlight the Settings button on the screen. Click the ENTER button on the remote
to access the Settings Menu. Navigate to the Network button in the Settings Menu and
click ENTER on the remote control to bring you to the Network Menu. Finally, click ENTER to
access the Network Address screen shown below:
Write down the IP Address that the router assigned to your i2eye. You will need this
address in steps ?? and ?? below. It will usually be a number similar to 192.168.0.xxxx.
You will add this IP Address to your router or gateway to allow the i2eye access to the
router and out to the Internet. This address allows other i2eye VideoPhones to find your
i2eye on the LAN.
