Connecting the DVG-5121SP directly
to a Modem, phone and Computer
If your computer connects directly to a DSL or Cable modem and does not connect to
a router, follow the steps below to install your DVG-5121SP. For any other
configuration, please refer to the user manual located on the CD-ROM included with
the device. After the steps are completed, your setup should look similar to the
diagram below.
a. Turn off your Computer.
b. Disconnect the power to your Cable or DSL Modem (unplug it or turn off the power
switch).
c. Unplug the Ethernet cable that is connected to your Cable or DSL Modems LAN
or Ethernet port. Leave the other end of this cable connected to your PC.
d. Plug the Ethernet cable that you just removed from
the modem into the LAN port on the right side of the
DVG-5121SP.
The other end remains connected to the PC.
e. Connect one end of the Ethernet Cable provided in this package to the LAN or
Ethernet Port on the Cable or DSL Modem.
f. Connect the other end of the provided Ethernet Cable
to the WAN Port on the side of the DVG-5121SP.
g. Connect one end of the provided RJ-11 phone cable into a standard analog
telephone.
h. Connect the other end of the RJ-11 cable to either
of the two phone ports on the rear panel of the
DVG-5121SP. (Note: you may connect one phone
to each of the phone ports, allowing a maximum of
two phones to be connected simultaneously.)
i. Next, connect one end of an ordinary RJ-11 phone
cable into the Line port on the rear panel of the
DVG-5121SP.
j. The other end of the cable should then be plugged into a active analog phone
wall-jack. This connection provides a backup connection in case of an interruption
in IP telephone service
k. Restore power to the Cable or DSL Modem (plug it
in or turn on the power switch).
l. Power on the DVG-5121SP
m. Restart your PC.
PPPoE Configuration
Some Internet Service Providers use PPPoE as their method of connecting clients. If
you have a PPPoE connection, you must follow the steps below to complete the
configuration of your hardware. If you are unsure of your connection type or do not
know your username and password, please check with your Internet Service Provider.
Once the unit reboots, your operating system (e.g., Windows XP) will display a status
change first disconnect then successful reconnect in the local network connection.
Check to see if the status LED on the front panel of the DVG-5121SP changes from
blinking green to steady green.
NOTE: The information displayed under Device Info in the Web GUI is necessary for
VoIP service registration. At minimum, you will need to know your: IP address, MAC
address, Subnet address, Gateway default address, and DNS settings.

INTERNET PHONE MADE FOR HOME & SOHO
The D-Link DVG-5121SP 2-port VoIP Telephone Adapter (TA) allows you to take advantage of your DSL/cable modem connection to make inexpensive Internet
phone calls. It combines the industrys latest Voice over the IP network technology with advanced communication features, and is compatible with industrywise
phone service. With two FSX phone ports, this VoIP TA connects you to two ordinary phone sets to let you make ??????????????????????????????????????????two??????????????????????????????????????? simultaneous phone calls. It provides
a lifeline to relay your outgoing phone calls to PSTN automatically, so your phone connection is guaranteed even when a power down at home or the office
occurs, or when your VoIP service is not available.
SUPERIOR VOICE QUALITY
The DVG-5121SP incorporates Quality of Service (QoS) to ensure that voice received through the Internet is the same as or even surpasses that received on
the ordinary phone. It supports many useful functions such as call transfer, caller ID display, 3-way conference, phone book, speed dialing and hot lines to
make it convenient to dial out or answer phone calls.
SHARE INTERNET ACCESS
The DVG-5121SP integrates a router function into the same box, so you can surf web pages, watch video or play on-line games while making Internet phone
calls. You do this by connecting your PC to the LAN of this VoIP TA, or by connecting multiple computers to this LAN port through an Ethernet switch. This device
provides priority queues to streamline traffic to let you experience superior video and on-line games.
COMPLETE SECURITY
The DVG-5121SP supports voice VLAN to isolate your voice communication so it cannot be tapped over the network. It provides NAT firewall to protect your
network from Internet intruders. For access control, it filters users packets with port-based, MAC-based and IP-based filters. Parental control allows you to block
undesired web sites and set time schedule for Internet logins.
