Introduction
At up to fifteen times the speed of previous wireless devices (up to 108Mbps in Super
AG mode), you can work faster and more efficiently, increasing productivity. With the
DWL-7100AP, bandwidth-intensive applications like graphics or multimedia will benefit
significantly because large files are able to move across the network quickly.
Inclusion of all three standards (802.11g; 802.11a; 802.11b) means that the DWL-7100AP
is versatile enough to allow connection to almost any 802.11 network or device.
The DWL-7100AP has the newest, strongest and most advanced security features
available today. When used with other 802.11 WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) compatible
products in a network with a RADIUS server, the security features include:
WPA: Wi-Fi Protected Access which authorizes and identifies users based on a secret
key that changes automatically at regular intervals. WPA uses TKIP (Temporal
Key Integrity Protocol) to change the temporal key every 10,000 packets (a
packet is a kind of message transmitted over a network.) This ensures much
greater security than the standard WEP security. (By contrast, the previous
WEP encryption implementations required the keys to be changed manually.)
For home users that will not incorporate a RADIUS server in their network, the security
for the DWL-7100AP, used in conjunction with other WPA-compatible 802.11 products,
will still be much stronger than ever before. Utilizing the Pre-Shared Key mode of
WPA, the DWL-7100AP will obtain a new security key every time it connects to the
802.11 network. You only need to input your encryption information once in the
configuration menu. No longer will you have to manually input a new WEP key frequently
to ensure security. With the DWL-7100AP, you will automatically receive a new key
every time you connect, vastly increasing the safety of your communication.

Connecting The DWL-7100AP To Your
Network
A. First, connect the power adapter to the receptor at the back panel of
the DWL-7100AP and then plug the other end of the power adapter
to a wall outlet or power strip. The Power LED will turn ON to indicate
proper operation.
B. Insert an Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the back panel
of the DWL-7100AP and an available Ethernet port on the network
adapter in the computer you will use to configure the DWL-7100AP. The
Link LED for the LAN Port will illuminate to indicate a proper connection.
C. Computers with 802.11a/b/g wireless adapters can connect to the
DWL-7100AP. The DWL-AG650 AirXpertTM Wireless Cardbus Adapter
and the DWL-AG520 AirXpertTM Wireless PCI Adapter will connect, out of
the box, with the DWL-7100AP, using their default settings.
When you have completed
the steps in this Quick
Installation Guide, your
connected network should
look similar to this:
Using The Setup Wizard
Step 1 - Set up your
new password. You
have the option to
establish a password.
Step 2 - Wireless LAN
802.11a Setup
The default wireless
settings are:
SSID = default
Channel = 52
You can change these
settings to match an
existing wireless network.
Step 3 - WEP Encryption
for 802.11a
The DWL-7100AP is capable
of 64-, 128-, and 152-bit
encryption. Select the key
size you wish to use and
enter the key in the field
provided. By default, WEP is
Disabled.
Your Setup is Complete!
Step 2 - Wireless LAN
802.11g Setup
The default wireless
settings are:
SSID = default
Channel = 6
You can change these
settings to match an
existing wireless network.
Step 3 - WEP Encryption
for 802.11g
The DWL-7100AP is
capable of 64-, 128-, and
152-bit encryption. Select
the key size you wish to
use and enter the key in
the field provided. By

Observations
802.11a/g Tri-Mode Dualband Wireless Access Point
The D-Link AirPremier AG DWL-7100AP is a tri-mode, dualband wireless Access Point that provides the most expanded user
bandwidth available in an AP. Hundreds of wireless clients can connect to this AP using any one of its 19 non-overlapping
channels to transfer data at speeds never before achievable in a wireless device.
Dualband Operation
Fast, Unobstructed Data Transfer
The DWL-7100AP operates seamlessly and simultaneously
in both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency spectrums
supporting the 802.11b and the newer, faster 802.11a and
802.11g wireless standards. For offices, schools or public
hotspots that already use 802.11b devices, the DWL-7100AP
is a great way to expand an existing network. It enables more
users to communicate with one another, access data and the
Internet. Now, you can have an AP that will compliment your
existing network and protect the investment you made when
you provided the convenience of wireless networking.
The DWL-7100AP offers transfer rates up to 108Mbps Turbo
mode in the 2.4GHz band, large data
packets travel from the router to a remote desktop or roaming
laptop PC at up to five times the speed of previous wireless
devices. Everyone can work faster and more efficiently or
watch a streaming video smoothly. The additional (802.11a)
5GHz band also offers a way to quickly transfer data without
the interference produced by other devices operating in the
2.4GHz frequency.
Network Segmentation by Frequency Channels
Enhanced Network Security
Network administrators can partition the usage of the
dualband DWL-7100AP by segmenting the users on the
wireless network by frequency band. Users who require
special networking privileges access to sensitive information,
specific departments or video conferencing may use just the
802.11a channels; while other employees may just use the
802.11b and 802.11g channels. This type of user
segmentation optimizes the AP's performance and delivers
the best network experience to each set of users.
The DWL-7100AP is ideal for network administrators who
require additional network security features. All of the AP's
settings are easily accessible in the web-based software user
interface that features a step-by-step Setup Wizard to get
your AP up and running in just a matter of minutes. The
DWL-7100AP incorporates the 802.1x standard for wireless
user authentication and WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access)
which dynamically encrypts data as it's being sent.
