Step 1: Quit the PrinterProxy or System Preferences applications if they are currently running.
Step 2: Delete the cups driver folder by dragging it to the trash. The folder is located at: Macintosh HD/Library/Printers/HP/cups
Be sure to empty the trash before continuing.
Step 3: Reinstall the Leopard (10.5) compatible software for your HP product.
Step 4: To prevent the issue from re-occurring, download and run the patch installer HP v9.7Inkjet OS X 10.5 Update.

NOTE: Do not run the patch installer until steps 1-3 are complete.

System Requirements

1. Verify your printer's firmware ends in 21A, 24A, 25A or 26B (On the test page, look in the top section marked "Printer Information", then '15: FW' for the firmware code, the last three digits will reveal your printer's firmware version).
2. Verify your printer is connected to your computer via a USB cable, and that the printer is powered On.
3. Verify that the LCD screen reads "Ready", and no errors are being displayed.
4. Load 4 sheets of Advanced Photo Paper in the main paper tray.

Important! Do not turn printer off, remove cables, or unplug the printer, or interrupt it in any way during the upgrade process.

Installation Instructions

UPDATE THE NEW FIRMWARE VIA USB CONNECTION TO A SINGLE PRINTER

1. Make sure the printer LCD says Ready
2. Download the file
3. Double-click the HP Firmware Updater icon
4. Follow the on-screen instructions
5. Once the software application is complete, refer to the printer LCD display for the rest of the processing and follow the steps when prompted.

Note: if you have more than one Pro B9180 connected, select only the first one to be updated; you will be able to update each subsequent printer after the previous printer is completed.

UPDATE THE NEW FIRMWARE VIA USB CONNECTION TO A SINGLE PRINTER

1. Click the file's Download Now button to begin the download process.
2. When prompted, select Run (this will download and run the self-extracting update package on your system).

Note: If you are on a Vista system, you will be asked for permission to run the program. Select 'Continue' when prompted.

3. If prompted, select Run again (this allows the update program in the package to run on your system).
4. The HP Device Update Wizard window will open, showing the printer(s) to be updated. Verify your printer is listed, and click Next.

Note: if you have more than one Pro B9180 connected, select only the first one to be updated; you will be able to update each subsequent printer after the previous printer is completed.

5. The Device Update Wizard window will show Important Information. Please read it carefully to make sure that all items are complete before proceeding.
6. Click Update. The screen will show a progress bar and may take several minutes to complete after which an 'Update Complete' message shows on the computer display screen. Click OK.

Note: This is not the end of the process, please proceed to step 7.

7. Refer to the Printer control panel LCD display for the rest of the processing and follow the steps when prompted.
